In a surprising turn of events, executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ungwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna, Nigeria, visited Senator Shehu Sani to express their grievances about being neglected by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Despite feeling abandoned and ignored, the ward Exco members denied rumors that they would join El-Rufai in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ¹.
During the visit, Senator Shehu Sani warned the members against being deceived into dumping the APC for the SDP. He pointed out that El-Rufai, who didn’t support them during his eight-year tenure as governor, was unlikely to do so now that he’s out of power and out of the ruling party.
Sani appealed to the Ward Exco members to remain in the party and work for Governor Uba Sani during the forthcoming 2027 general elections. He promised to help reach out to Governor Uba Sani to execute meaningful projects at Ungwar Sarki Ward.
Initially, the members had resolved to dump the party due to prolonged deprivation. However, after the meeting, they reversed their decision and pledged to support Governor Uba Sani.
Ward Chairman Aliyu Ibrahim lamented, “We (Ungwar Sarki Ward) Exco were neglected for 8 years during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor. Not even a dime was given for our support and loyalty to the party.” He added that the people of Kaduna saw how El-Rufai neglected them and opted for outsiders instead.
The visit and subsequent pledge of support from the Ward Exco members demonstrate a significant shift in loyalty, as they now vow to work against El-Rufai in the 2027 elections.
