AYCF Urges Nigerians to Resist Misinformation, Stresses Importance of Electoral Integrity

By Ada Akita

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has vehemently condemned the recent spate of rumors alleging the replacement of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The Arewa group, in a statement issued by its President General, Yerima Shettima, categorically described such claims as ‘fake and mischievous,’ aimed at sowing discord and confusion within the political landscape of our great nation.

Shettima stated that in a time when Nigeria is striving for unity and progress under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the dissemination of such baseless rumors serves no purpose other than to undermine the credibility of our democratic institutions.

The AYCF urged all citizens to recognize these fabrications for what they are: attempts by detractors to destabilize the current administration and distract from its agenda of governance and national development.

“It is crucial for the public to understand that the integrity of the electoral process is paramount to our democracy. The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has been at the forefront of ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria. Any attempt to disrupt this process is an affront to the democratic principles we hold dear.

“We warn those behind these malicious rumors to desist immediately. Such actions are not only irresponsible but also detrimental to the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people. Instead of engaging in the politics of division, we implore all citizens and political actors to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to function smoothly, focusing on policies and initiatives that will foster national growth and development.

“Furthermore, we urge the public to remain vigilant and discerning when it comes to information regarding government appointments and decisions. In this digital age, where misinformation spreads rapidly, it is essential to rely on official announcements from credible sources.

“Any news regarding changes in the leadership of INEC or other significant political developments should only be trusted if it comes from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) or other verified official channels.”

He posited that as we navigate this critical phase in our nation’s history, let us prioritize unity, progress, and the rule of law.

The AYCF called upon all Nigerians to stand together against the forces of misinformation and to support the efforts of our leaders in building a prosperous future for our country.

The President General said the forum remains committed to advocating for the interests of the youth and the broader Arewa community. “We will continue to monitor the political landscape and engage constructively with all stakeholders to ensure that the voices of our people are heard and respected.”

Plateau Killings: AYCF Demands Justice, Compensation for Victims

By  Musa Mari

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has strongly condemned the recent brutal killings of innocent residents in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that has left numerous families in mourning and entire communities devastated.

In a statement released by its President General, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the AYCF lamented the recurring attacks on innocent citizens and called on the government to take immediate and decisive action to halt the bloodshed.

A Call for Justice and Government Action

The AYCF emphasized that the killings in Plateau State were not only a violation of human rights but also a glaring reflection of the growing insecurity in the country. The organization insisted that the perpetrators of the heinous act must be apprehended and made to face justice.

“The pain and trauma caused by such violence cannot be understated,” Shettima stated. “It is imperative that the government prioritizes the safety of its people by implementing comprehensive security reforms.”

Demands for Compensation

Beyond seeking justice, the AYCF called on the government to provide adequate compensation for the victims’ families. The forum insisted that although nothing could truly make up for the loss of human lives, financial support was crucial to help survivors rebuild their lives.

“We demand that the government establish a special fund to support the victims,” the statement read. “This should cover medical aid, psychological support, and financial compensation for the families of those who have lost their loved ones.”

Solidarity with Plateau State

The AYCF also extended condolences to the people of Plateau State and the Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, expressing grief over what it described as yet another avoidable bloodbath.

The organization reiterated its stance that the government must do more to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety and dignity of every Nigerian citizen.

“This is not just a call for justice; it is a call for compassion, accountability, and collective responsibility,” Shettima added.

As the nation mourns yet another tragic loss of innocent lives, the question remains—will the authorities take decisive action, or will this cycle of violence continue unchecked?

Arewa Group  Defend Defence Minister, Reject Smear Campaigns

By Adole Adakole

The Arewa Youths Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has strongly condemned what it describes as politically motivated attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru. The group insists that these attacks are not just targeted at Badaru but are also an indirect attempt to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued by the Speaker of the Assembly, Comrade Abdul Danbature, the AYAGL asserted that these allegations are baseless and should not be taken seriously by Nigerians. The group urged the public to recognize Badaru’s contributions to national security rather than be misled by negative campaigns.

“Minister Badaru’s leadership at the Ministry of Defence has been marked by professionalism, transparency, and a clear vision for improving security across the nation,” the statement read.

Strengthening the Military

The group emphasized that since his appointment, Badaru has worked tirelessly to enhance Nigeria’s military capabilities, ensuring that the armed forces are better equipped to handle emerging security challenges. According to AYAGL, his efforts have been instrumental in keeping Nigeria’s military one of the most formidable forces in the region.

“Through his foresight, the Ministry has seen improved coordination between the military and other security agencies, leading to better operational efficiency and more effective security management,” the statement noted. “This level of collaboration is crucial in enabling the security forces to respond swiftly to both internal and external threats.”

Commitment to Soldiers’ Welfare

AYAGL also commended the Defence Minister’s commitment to the welfare of soldiers, stating that he has championed policies aimed at improving their living conditions and operational effectiveness.

“Minister Badaru has played a key role in securing better funding for the military, ensuring that troops have access to modern equipment, adequate medical support, and high-quality training programs,” the statement added.

The group highlighted that under Badaru’s leadership, morale among security personnel has significantly improved, as the government continues to prioritize their needs.

Diplomatic and Regional Security Efforts

Beyond domestic security, AYAGL acknowledged the Minister’s contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s ties with international allies and regional partners. His strategic approach to diplomatic engagement, the group said, has bolstered Nigeria’s leadership role in African peacekeeping efforts and regional security initiatives.

“Minister Badaru understands that security is not just a national issue but a regional one,” the group stated. “His proactive steps in fostering international cooperation demonstrate his commitment to long-term peace and stability in Nigeria and beyond.”

Condemnation of Smear Campaigns

The youth group expressed concern over the growing trend of smear campaigns against public officials, warning that such acts are designed to distract from the real work of governance.

“It is deeply troubling to witness these unfounded attacks on a leader who has dedicated himself to strengthening Nigeria’s defence sector,” the group said. “Instead of acknowledging the progress made, some individuals are bent on spreading falsehoods and engaging in character assassination.”

AYAGL accused those behind the negative reports of pursuing selfish political interests at the expense of national security.

“We firmly believe that these attacks are motivated by ulterior political or personal agendas. Such campaigns only serve to divide and distract the nation from the critical work of strengthening our security infrastructure,” the statement read.

Call for National Unity and Support

The group urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and instead support the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Defence under Badaru’s leadership.

“We, therefore, call on all well-meaning Nigerians to rise above the rhetoric and remain steadfast in support of Minister Abubakar Badaru,” the group appealed. “His leadership is focused on ensuring peace and stability across the country, and his unwavering dedication should be celebrated, not undermined.”

To those behind the smear campaigns, Danbature urged them to reconsider their actions and work toward national unity.

“It is time to put aside political or personal differences and focus on what truly matters: the safety, security, and prosperity of Nigeria and its citizens,” he said. “The Ministry of Defence, under Minister Badaru’s guidance, is playing a vital role in national security, and we must all support him in this mission.”

Vote of Confidence in Badaru

Concluding its statement, the AYAGL passed a vote of absolute confidence in Minister Abubakar Badaru, reaffirming its belief in his leadership and dedication to national service.

“Nigeria’s future is brighter with leaders like Minister Badaru at the helm of our defence efforts,” the group declared.

Northern Body Celebrates Mele Kyari’s Achievements, Welcomes New Era at NNPCL

By Sandra Umani

The Northern Awareness Network (NAN) has congratulated Mele Kyari on his retirement as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). NAN Chairman Salihu Suleiman praised Kyari’s visionary leadership, which transformed NNPCL and laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s economic future.

Kyari’s tenure was marked by a commitment to reform, transparency, and sustainability. His leadership coincided with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, sharing a vision for a prosperous Nigeria. This alignment reshaped Nigeria’s oil sector, steering it towards economic independence and operational efficiency.

One notable achievement was the settlement of a $2.4 billion debt with international oil companies (IOCs). This long-standing financial burden had hindered Nigeria’s oil sector growth. Clearing the debt liberated NNPCL from financial constraints, positioning it for sustainable investment and growth.

The Northern Awareness Network hailed this milestone as a testament to Kyari’s strategic foresight and dedication to fostering a robust economic environment. Kyari’s tenure also saw the complete removal of fuel subsidies, a bold move that liberated resources and opened investment avenues.

This reform created a stable economic landscape, allowing NNPCL to focus on core activities like improving gas infrastructure and expanding renewable energy efforts. These initiatives reflected Kyari’s understanding of Nigeria’s broader economic potential and commitment to positioning the nation as a regional energy leader.

Kyari’s extensive experience in the oil industry earned him the trust of various leaders. His ability to steer NNPC into a limited liability company improved financial stability and operational efficiency, setting a precedent for future management.

The remarkable strides made under his leadership enhanced Nigeria’s energy security and attracted foreign direct investment (FDI), with a historic milestone of $17 billion achieved during his tenure.

Kyari introduced initiatives addressing critical challenges in Nigeria’s oil sector, including crude oil theft, infrastructure decay, and investment constraints. Strategic measures boosted oil and gas production, secured energy supply, and improved efficiency.

As Kyari retires, the Northern Awareness Network expressed gratitude for his contributions and dedication to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. They wished him well in his future endeavors, confident his legacy would inspire and guide NNPCL’s new management.

Looking ahead, NAN is optimistic the incoming leadership will build upon Kyari’s reforms. The commitment to transparency, efficiency, and sustainability must remain at the forefront of NNPCL’s agenda.

The path forward is filled with opportunities, and it is imperative the new management embraces Kyari’s vision to ensure Nigeria’s oil sector growth and development.

NAN stands ready to support ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s energy sector. With right leadership and strategic direction, NNPCL can achieve greater heights, ensuring energy security and economic transformation for all Nigerians.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also celebrated Kyari’s leadership and achievements, commending his dedication and professionalism ¹. Kyari’s leadership has been instrumental in revitalizing NNPCL, recording notable achievements, including resuscitating two refineries and increasing domestic natural gas consumption.

Kyari’s ability to steer NNPC into a limited liability company significantly improved its financial stability and operational efficiency. His extensive experience in the oil industry has earned him the trust of various leaders.

The Northern Awareness Network’s recognition of Kyari’s achievements underscores the significance of his contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. As he retires, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide future leaders.

Kyari’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability has set a high standard for his successors. His dedication to Nigeria’s economic growth and development has left a lasting impact on the nation.

The incoming leadership at NNPCL must build upon Kyari’s reforms, ensuring the company remains committed to transparency, efficiency, and sustainability. This will guarantee Nigeria’s oil sector continues to grow and develop, driving economic transformation and energy security.

As Nigeria enters a new era in its oil and gas sector, the Northern Awareness Network’s celebration of Kyari’s achievements serves as a reminder of the importance of visionary leadership and dedication to national development.

Youth Group  Commend Mele Kyari’s Transformative Leadership as He Exits NNPCL

By Michael Jimoh

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has commended Mr. Mele Kyari for his exemplary leadership as he steps down from his role as Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). His tenure, which spanned the administrations of Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is being celebrated for its transformative impact on Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

In a statement issued by AYCF President General Yerima Shettima, the forum expressed deep appreciation for Mr. Kyari’s contributions, emphasizing that his leadership set a strong foundation for transparency, accountability, and growth within the NNPCL.

“Since his appointment on July 8, 2019, Mr. Kyari has spearheaded innovative reforms that have significantly enhanced operational efficiency, reduced costs, and improved profitability. His dedication to transparency has marked a decisive shift from past practices, instilling a culture of accountability long overdue in an organization historically plagued by corruption and inefficiency,” Shettima stated.

One of Mr. Kyari’s hallmark achievements was the implementation of the Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence (TAPE) agenda, which dismantled entrenched opacity within the NNPC and restored public confidence in the management of Nigeria’s vital oil resources.

Shettima further highlighted Mr. Kyari’s pivotal role in securing a partnership with Italian oil giant Eni to rehabilitate and upgrade Nigeria’s refineries, a move aimed at achieving full production capacity by 2023. This initiative is expected to bolster local refining capabilities, reduce dependency on imported petroleum products, and pave the way for energy independence.

Under Mr. Kyari’s stewardship, the NNPCL also witnessed the establishment of a new trading subsidiary and a crude oil marketing division, alongside the introduction of an advanced performance management system. These efforts have streamlined operations and enhanced the corporation’s global competitiveness, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the international oil and gas landscape.

Beyond operational efficiency, Mr. Kyari has been a staunch advocate for environmental sustainability, championing increased domestic gas utilization and the reduction of the NNPC’s carbon footprint. His leadership facilitated the development of critical gas infrastructure, enabling Nigeria to become Africa’s largest producer of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and placing it among the top ten producers globally.

“This progress not only strengthens our energy security but also unlocks opportunities for economic diversification through gas-based industries such as petrochemicals and fertilizers. As Mr. Kyari moves forward, the AYCF recognizes the profound impact of his tenure and hopes his successor will build upon these achievements,” Shettima said.

Shettima also praised Kyari’s integrity and vision, stating that his leadership has contributed immensely to national development and economic stability.

“We extend our best wishes to Mr. Mele Kyari in his future endeavors and hope that his legacy of excellence will inspire future leaders in the oil and gas industry. Furthermore, we urge his successor to maintain the momentum of reforms initiated under Kyari’s leadership,” he concluded.

The AYCF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies that drive transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in Nigeria’s energy sector, underscoring the importance of continuity in the nation’s quest for progress.

El-Rufai’s Neglect: APC Ward Exco Members Pledge Support for Uba Sani

By Mike Odeh James

In a surprising turn of events, executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ungwar Sarki Ward in Kaduna, Nigeria, visited Senator Shehu Sani to express their grievances about being neglected by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Despite feeling abandoned and ignored, the ward Exco members denied rumors that they would join El-Rufai in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ¹.

During the visit, Senator Shehu Sani warned the members against being deceived into dumping the APC for the SDP. He pointed out that El-Rufai, who didn’t support them during his eight-year tenure as governor, was unlikely to do so now that he’s out of power and out of the ruling party.

Sani appealed to the Ward Exco members to remain in the party and work for Governor Uba Sani during the forthcoming 2027 general elections. He promised to help reach out to Governor Uba Sani to execute meaningful projects at Ungwar Sarki Ward.

Initially, the members had resolved to dump the party due to prolonged deprivation. However, after the meeting, they reversed their decision and pledged to support Governor Uba Sani.

Ward Chairman Aliyu Ibrahim lamented, “We (Ungwar Sarki Ward) Exco were neglected for 8 years during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor. Not even a dime was given for our support and loyalty to the party.” He added that the people of Kaduna saw how El-Rufai neglected them and opted for outsiders instead.

The visit and subsequent pledge of support from the Ward Exco members demonstrate a significant shift in loyalty, as they now vow to work against El-Rufai in the 2027 elections.

Middle Belt Forum Reassures Southerners: ‘Our Region Remains Safe

By  Mike Odeh James

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has strongly condemned the extrajudicial killing of 16 Nigerian citizens in Uromi, Edo State, while reassuring Southerners that the Middle Belt remains a safe and welcoming region for all Nigerians. The victims, reportedly armed hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano, were lynched by a mob that suspected them of being kidnappers. The tragic incident has sparked tensions, with some elements in the far North issuing inflammatory threats against Southerners.

In a statement released on April 2, 2025, the MBF rejected any attempt to link the Middle Belt with those making threats of reprisal. The forum emphasized that the Middle Belt is distinct from the core North and will not be drawn into any violence stemming from the Uromi killings.

Middle Belt is Not the North

Luka Binniyat, the MBF spokesman, made it clear that the Middle Belt has its own identity and should not be mistaken for the  Northern Nigeria or Arewa, where tensions have been stoked by extremists.

“The Middle Belt denounces the threats coming from certain quarters in the North against Southerners,” Binniyat stated. “We are a region of peace and hospitality. Our people have long suffered from the same insecurity challenges plaguing Nigeria, and we will never allow our land to become a breeding ground for violence against innocent Southerners.”

He emphasized that the Middle Belt has a long history of coexistence with people from the South, built on mutual respect and shared struggles for justice and equity.

Middle Belt: A Safe Haven for All

Reassuring Southerners residing in the Middle Belt, the MBF pledged that they have nothing to fear. The forum affirmed that the region, comprising Southern Kaduna, Southern Kebbi, Southern Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe, and Taraba states, as well as the entire North Central geopolitical zone, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will continue to uphold peace and justice.

“We urge our Southern brothers and sisters living in the Middle Belt to disregard any fears or rumors of hostility. We will protect every law-abiding citizen who resides in our land,” Binniyat added.

A Call for Justice and Security

While supporting the investigation into the Uromi killings, the MBF expressed concern over the government’s slow response to the persistent attacks on Middle Belt communities by armed herdsmen. The forum noted that its people have endured years of violent raids and land seizures by criminal elements with little intervention from security agencies.

“Thousands of our people remain in captivity of bandits, and vast portions of our ancestral lands are still occupied by violent militias,” the statement read. “The swift response to the Uromi killings must be extended to the wider insecurity issues across the country.”

The MBF further stated that justice must be applied equitably, ensuring that both the victims of Uromi and those suffering from unchecked violence in the Middle Belt receive the same level of government attention and action.

Building a United Future

The forum called on all Nigerians to resist divisive narratives and focus on unity and security. “The Middle Belt will not be a tool for those trying to ignite ethnic conflicts. We stand for fairness, peace, and the right of every Nigerian to live and thrive without fear.”

As Nigeria grapples with rising insecurity, the MBF’s message is clear: the Middle Belt is not aligned with those advocating violence, and its doors remain open to all Nigerians seeking peace, safety, and prosperity.
